Welcome to PCS Family Services

PROJECT 2ND CHANCE

Project 2nd Chance is a restorative Justice diversion program that creates opportunities for a facilitated dialogue between a young person who has caused harm, the person who has been harmed, caregivers/families, and community members to discuss the impact of the incident on everyone. Project 2nd chance is a post arrest but pre-charge, meaning that the young person has not been charged with a crime. The youth is diverted to P2ndC program by police, probation, or the district attorney’s office instead of being processed through the juvenile legal system.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION FOR POMONA YOUTH

Outdoor Education for Pomona Youth (OEPY) Program aims to ensure that all children and youth in Pomona have free access to quality outdoor education and enrichment programs. This program hopes to build their awareness of environmental justice and climate equity and support their exposure to the value of nature and green space s for health, sense of community and positive recreation. For Justice and system involved youth of color (the primary clients of PCS), nature plays an 4evfenr more important role: outdoor play can be a venue for quiet self-reflection, healing, and self-discovery.

PROJECT FRESH START

Project Fresh Start (PFS) receives referrals through school districts to identifiable clients. PFS goal is to reduce the risk of alcohol, tobacco drug abuse, and violence by focusing on socio, emotional, psychological factors that encourage substance use prevention for youth. This 12-week intensive program incorporates Truth About Drugs Program, which focuses on enhancing their problem-solving skills, promoting healthy lifestyles, and guiding them toward making informed decisions.

Mental Health Services

Integrated into our Youth and Adult services is a Psycho-social assessment by a licensed therapist, or supervised associate/intern/practicum student. Upon completion of the evaluation, a multi-modal determination will be made matching clients who are vulnerable to mental health syndromes (PTSD, Depression, Anxiety) to the correct treatment modality. Clinicians will be trained in Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM), Cognitive Behavioral interventions, and Seeking Safety’s dual
recovery program. If the services are not sufficient to ameliorate symptoms or provide marked improvement, the client will be referred to school-based services, or community-based mental health services in collaboration with the client’s family, where appropriate.
